"OÍD EL CONCIERTO" Lockbox

$3,200.00

This lockbox is an ode to the sounds of nature, as well as the sounds inspired by nature. Each side is handprinted and engraved with an animal or insect, which forms a continuous scene. One side has an egret with a banner that reads “CON GRACIA, AMOR, Y DULCE ARMONIA” (with grace, love, and sweet harmony). The next side features a large toad with its mouth agape, in which a golden text “CANTEN, CON TODO RIGOR Y PRIMOR” (Sing, with all of your rigor and care) meanders out. The next scene features a trompe l’oeil sheet of music with a three part Tarantella, a type of dance that was thought to be the antidote for a species of Southern Italian wolf spider. The final side features two snails dancing. Above the dancing snails, a banner floats with the words “BAILAD CARACOLES”, which is the title of a piece of guitar music by Santiago de Murcia. The box’s bolt has a stopper in the shape of a human ear, and the words “OÍD EL CONCIERTO” in golden letters is painted on the top of the bolt.
